CCRC supports four bills designed to improve California’s child care system

California’s 2017-18 legislative session is now in full swing in Sacramento.  Each January, new legislation is proposed and, as in the past few years, there is significant legislative interest in child care and early learning programs. Over 20 proposals addressing a wide array of issues, including family eligibility, funding, local flexibility, and specific technical issues relating to program administration, were introduced this year.

Summary of the 2017/18 budget proposals for child care and early learning

On Tuesday, January 10, Governor Brown released his Proposed Budget for 2017/18. The Governor focused on the need for fiscal security and said that the rate of revenue growth in the state is declining, but is still growing. The overall focus is to maintain a large reserve in the face of both fiscal uncertainty and uncertainty from new policies being pursued by President Trump and his administration.

Tierra del Sol helps strengthen the community by volunteering

Tierra del Sol has been volunteering with CCRC for close to five years. While Tierra del Sol volunteers have helped most of CCRC’s departments at one point or another, they mainly volunteer in our Head Start department. There are usually 4-6 volunteers, and they each volunteer about eight hours each week. They’re very flexible, fast learners who have provided an extra support to the agency.

CCRC warmly thanks its Book and Toy Drive supporters this holiday

All of us at CCRC want to thank everyone who has supported our Book and Toy Drive with a donation or by hosting a collection bin at their business.

Our supporters’ generous donations allowed us to hold a giveaway event at each of our four locations on Saturday, December 10th. There was food, story time, and activities and every child was gifted a book and a toy.  During this holiday season 10,000 books and toys were collected and distributed locally!

California Legislature set to begin 2017-2018 session

On December 5, 2016, California will begin its two-year legislative session. Following the November election, new members will be sworn into office — and the work will begin for the two years ahead. Many new faces will be joining returning members of the Legislature this year. In the Child Care Resource Center’s service area, three of our nine state senators are new to their seats. In the Child Care Resource Center’s California Assembly delegation, five of our fourteen representatives are new to their districts.
